Building Someone Else’s Dream

Building Someone Else’s Dream

We had this same conversation over and over, back before the Regional Manager idea existed. Waking up and going to work and waking up and going to work and spending our best hours building somebody else’s dream and then collecting a paycheck from them for it. Nothing was wrong with the paycheck. It was that we kept building things that were never going to be ours. Every time.

That is where the Regional Manager idea came from. We wanted to make money on our own. And we figured there are other like thinking minds out there who want the same and are just waiting for somebody to hand them something real to run. So we built it. The job we wanted somebody to hand us. If you want the shape of it we put what a Regional Manager does on its own page and the rest of this is what that page leaves out.

It is like an Airbnb cleaner, except the sites are yours

That is the comparison I use for it and I do not mean it as a knock. Somebody cleaning four places on a Saturday is already running a business and hardly anybody gives them credit for that. The difference is what comes after. A cleaner turns the site over and gets paid the same whether that guest had the best weekend of their year or not. A Regional Manager earns a cut of what the guest pays for the experience. So the sites and campground partners you take on stop being property you service and start being YOUR business.

What you would actually be running

Every partner you sign makes the thing you are building bigger. You are the person they call. You set up the sites and the experiences and you decide what a stay on that land is going to feel like. And when you tell a guest where to get breakfast, that pick shows up right on the property page where they will actually see it!

There is training before any of that. Fourteen modules of it and you finish them before you start signing partners and that sounds like a lot until you are standing on somebody’s land while he asks you a question about his own property and you know the answer. Then there is a portal where you watch your bookings and your money come in as they happen instead of wondering about it.

The part I am not going to dress up

You have to be able to put your own money into your first setup. That is real. I would rather you hear it from me now than find it in the fine print later. We are also brand new and we are figuring pieces of this out in public. If what you want is a name that has been around a long time, we are not that yet.

Nobody ever offered this to me. I would have loved it if somebody had. So we made it into a thing that can be offered and now we are the ones offering it.

So go and apply to be a Regional Manager if any of that sounded like your kind of thing. There is an option on that form that just says you are still exploring it and you are allowed to pick that one! If you would rather talk to a person before you fill out anything, do that instead, because we can get on a call and go through the whole thing together.

And be honest, when you pictured it just now, how many sites did you have?

We Are Not Trying to Get Out of the Work

It is not the work we are trying to leave. The work belongs to somebody else and we want it back.
