Staff at My Own Getaway

I have four kids and three of them are boys, and camping was the thing all of us loved. And then I got to where I did not want to go anymore. I want to say that out loud because I do not think I am the only mom who has ever felt that.

Here is what it actually looked like. The kids would be down at the water fishing and I would be back at the site with the next meal to prep and the last one still to clean up, and they would want me to come out and play the game with them and I would say no. Not a mean no. Just a no, because there was always something that had to get done first and it was always me doing it.

We bought an RV thinking that would fix it. It helped some but the work only changed shape and something my family loved turned into something I resented and I stopped wanting to go on the weekends.

And the trip really started days before the trip. I made the menu and I did the shopping and I prepped everything I could at home so that maybe this time I would get to sit down out there. I never got there. I had a full-time job already and I wanted the camping too and what I got instead was a second shift at my own getaway.

You are not the tired one holding it all together in the background. You are the reason your kids have any of these memories at all. The trips they will tell their own kids about someday came from you. And nobody has ever handed you a weekend off from being the person who makes it all happen.

So that is a real part of why we built this. You show up and the site is already set up and the equipment is already there. When you leave you do not take a single bit of it down because taking it down is our job now. That is the whole thing and I love it. You can have more of it waiting

You can also have things waiting on you that I used to haul and cook myself. A stocked cooler. A breakfast basket for the morning and a campfire dinner kit for the night. Fishing gear and camp games and a kids adventure kit. There is a dog package too with a bed and a bowl and treats in it because he is coming anyway and we know it. I can have the outdoor vacation and not be the staff for it? Yes please!

Go pull up your calendar this week and find the one weekend nobody has claimed yet. Just find it. That is the hard part and everything that comes after it is easy now.

I want to go look at a college in Boulder with my daughter and make a night or two outside out of it. The only thing I want to be responsible for is getting us there.

We are new at this and I am not going to dress that up for you. But a site down in Durango is real and you can go look at it right now and pick a weekend. Or search for a campsite closer to where you already are. Looking costs you nothing and it does not commit you to anything.
