Somebody Building Something

Somebody Building Something

I want to tell you about one small part of our Regional Manager’s work because I think it says more about the job than a whole list of duties could. When a guest books with us they can add extras onto their stay and somebody has to have those things ready before the guest pulls in. That somebody is the RM. If the role is new to you here is a plain look at what a Regional Manager does, but the part I want to talk about is the stuff.

Bought once, used over and over

Some of the things our RM bought for add-ons were one-time purchases. They own those things now! The guest packs up and goes home and the thing is still right there, and it can go back out for the next guest and the one after that. They can use them over and over again to make more money.

That sounds like a small detail. I do not think it is. Most people only ever get paid for their hours. You work the shift and you get paid for the shift and when you stop the money stops. Working another shift is how a lot of people take care of their families and there is nothing small about that either. But a thing you bought once that keeps earning after you go home is different. That is somebody building something.

You might already be a builder

If you have spent years handing your best hours to somebody else, I think you might be a builder who just never got handed anything to build with! You already know how to show up and do the work and do it well. What you have not had is anything that stays yours when the shift ends.

So here is what I want you to do. Go sit down tonight and write out what you would want a guest to find waiting for them when they get there. Then circle everything on that list you would only ever have to buy once. That circled part is the start of something that is yours and I want you to really look at it before you decide this is not for you.

The hard part too

You spend the money before the thing has earned you anything, and that takes some nerve. Then it goes back out and back out again and it is still yours.

We are brand new, so I am not going to put a number on what any of this earns over a season. I would rather tell you the truth than hand you a guess.

If your list already has circles on it, go fill out the Regional Manager application. It does not sign you up for anything and it is how we start talking. If you would rather talk to a person before one more form, put some time on my calendar and we will go through all of it together. I will tell you the hard parts too. Please ask me anything.

What is the first thing you would buy once and get to keep?

We Are Not Trying to Get Out of the Work

It is not the work we are trying to leave. The work belongs to somebody else and we want it back.

Building Someone Else’s Dream

We kept building things that were never going to be ours. That is where the Regional Manager idea came from.
